If you feel like you’re replacing heating lamps on your SIG Blomax line every other week, you’re not alone. It’s frustrating. You’re staring at unplanned downtime and a pile of wasted PET preforms, and it feels like a losing battle. Most people assume it’s a voltage spike or some electrical glitch. But usually? It’s just the glass giving up. These tubes go through a brutal cycle of heating up and cooling down, and eventually, they just snap. We got tired of seeing that happen, so we rebuilt our replacements to actually hold up. Why they keep breaking Standard lamps usually die at the pinch seal or where the electrode hits the glass. The rapid expansion and contraction just stress the material until it cracks. We switched to a high-purity quartz that can actually take the heat. By tweaking the wall thickness and how the halogen cycle works inside, we’ve managed to kill those internal pressure spikes. It’s a simpler way to make the glass tougher. Getting them into your machine The best part is that these are just drop-in replacements. You don’t have to mess with your wiring or spend hours reprogramming your controllers. We kept the wattage and voltage exactly where the Blomax OEM specs want them, so your heat profile stays consistent. We also beefed up the electrodes. This stops that annoying “hot spot” from forming at the end of the tube, which is where so many lamps burn out prematurely. A couple of things to keep in mind Since these tubes are reinforced, the infrared emission is a little different than the thin-walled ones. You might find you need to nudge your power settings up or down by about 2-5% to get your preforms exactly where you want them. And here is a pro tip:Clean your sockets. I can’t stress this enough. If there’s carbon buildup on the connector, it creates resistance. That heats up the socket and can lead to a total meltdown, no matter how strong the tube is. Give them a good clean and make sure they’re seated perfectly. That’s the only way to actually get the full lifespan out of these parts.
